Thanks to every one for all your time, knowledge and patience. I got home from work this evening and set the engine at TDC then pulled the dist. cap and marked #1 tower and then set the dist. to it. Put it back in and checked everything again and pumped the gas twice and my son turned it over. It acted like to much timing so I turned the dist. by hand and it fired right up. I revved it up to what I thought was 2000-2300 as my tach wasnt working and ran it in for 30 minutes. My oil pressure gauge dosnt have numbers but it was at 7/8 across the whole time The temp got half way and stayed there and the vacum read 22 for the whole time. I,ll drain the oil and filter tomorrow evening, put in new oil and filter and try to fix the tach and set the timing. Sure is a good feeling when it all comes together. Thanks again every one. This wouldnt have been possible with out all the help ya'll gave
Matt the cam is a Crane 134042, I had to move the dist. 1 tooth today and then set the timing at 12BTDC and it starts and runs great. My son and I drove it around easy and stopped at the car wash to wash the body off. We finished and got back in and it wouldnt do any thing. I thought the starter relay went out as it was old so I turned the key on and jumped the relay with 2 screw drivers and still nothing so I guess that new starter went out. I'm going to install the rest of my ground wires and replace that relay before I do any thing else and see if thats it.
Just wondering cause 22 inches of merc is pretty darn good imo. I have 19.5 last time i checked with the 343901. Had over 20 with the new valves and seats but they are not brand new right now.
