replacing tie rods

My 88 f-150 needs a passenger side tie rod replaced.Should I replace both sides at the same time? I think I should have both sides done at the same time but my mechanic says the other side is fine. I hate to have it aligned and then have to replace the other side in a year or so.The truck has 52,000 miles and I drive it on the hwy mostly. Thanks

I have been advised if you are replacing one, replace both. I don't know if lower milage would make any difference, but you have 52,000 on each of them, why not start fresh with both being new. I will watch for others to respond as I plan to do that same job this weekend.

If they're the factory "rubberized"type, I would replace both outers and left inner. On that particular style, age is more of a factor than mileage.

i agree.... since you are going to need another alignment anyhow, just do them all and save yourself the hassle later. the extra money you spend now plus one alignment will be cheaper than doing an alignment everytime you replace a single part.
