Over the weekend I was up in the hills creeping up a pretty steep grade in 4x4 hi and the engine died. Restarted fine but died again after I had a full load of firewood in the back, again in 4x4. This time just pulling to a stop and putting it into park. Restarted fine again. Has not happened since. Its a 05 250 v10 auto. Only 4k on it. I am going to have them look at it at the first service coming up, but would appreciate any thoughts.
Not with your foot on the gas in 4hi. Idle has nothing to do with it. If your foot was completely off the gas then I would say idle air controller. Depends how it died??
Like somebody shut the key off or was it more gradual?
It died all of a sudden. no warning. steering went stiff, tach to zero, all warning lights came on. i know at least one of the times my foot was no where near the gas pedal as i was slowing to a stop, and it died right as i put it in park.
im not too concerned about it though. as long as it restarts, its not a big deal. im sure there will be some codes in the computer that they can diagnose it off of.
By any chance did you get a "wrench symbol" displayed in the instrument cluster ? This a Drive by wire system ,no physical conection to the throttle body from the go pedal on the floor. There have been some problems with bad go pedals, they have a rehostat(sp) type controller mounted to them.
Also the IAC control is a stepper type which uses electrical pulses to control idle speed. What has the truck been doing when you start it cold ?
Is it searching alot to find a smooth idle rpm?
Could be that problem also.
