Oil Pressure sending unit

First I must say that I have found this site very informative and thank those that are willing help others.

I have a question regarding the oil pressure sending unit. I have read many post regarding this and believed that I had a faulty sending unit. Here is my issue.

I have recently purchased a 1988 4x4 f-250 302 with 28,600 (yes 28,600) the vehicle was a corporate vehicle and was not drivin but around a corporate office site. I have found that the oil pressure gauge (even though it does not show true pressure) is holding at "low" line. After reading numerous post about this I beleved that my sending unit was bad. I purchased a new sending unit from the local parts house and changed out the unit. Upon starting the truck with the new sending unit I noticed that the gauge was bottomed out, and didnt move. I put the old one back in and got the same "low" pressure reading.
Could this be a faulty new sending unit or do they have differant ratings, as the parts house had several types for this vehicle.

After changing the sending unit in my '95 F150 a couple times and still having varying readings including Low, I put in a real oil pressures gauge (mechanical in this case). Love it. Go for the real thing. You can get a decent Sun mechanical for abour $16, with 5 psi increments. I think electric is not much more.

We call the factory units "idiot light with a needle" or simply "idiot gauge", LOL!
