On the weekend a hacker got into my computer and it now has to get a new hard drive. We figure it came from my brother inlaw. he got hit thru an e-mail and I think the hacker got his e-mail addresses and piggy backed them. He too had to get his hardrive redone. I lost my wedding photos before I could get a disc to put them on.
So I'm not going to be here as often for the next while. Using comp at work for this. So guys I ask to check your system now in case this hacker has got through my sytem to yours. I had a firewall and anti-virus and stuff through Nortons and now been inform it is archatic and does not work well. So will change this.
So beware and do a scan of your system. Sorry about this guys just want you to make sure it was not passed to your system. GLEN
Hmm that sounds strange that you would need a new hard drive. Most of the time when a hacker enters a computer, they cant really hurt any components, only mess them up. So I wouldnt go throw your hard drive away just yet.
I got hit in Nov., someone rerouted long distance calls thru my system and I got the billing for that. Good thing we use Sears connect as they covered over 2/3 of the $980 long distance. What did exactly happen to your hard drive Glen?
Well when I went to shut it off on Sunday morning it said that another user was still online. I still shut it off. Later it would turn on and when the screen came on to my windows it would not do anything more. It just froze up. Mouse would not work, could not type anything into it. Talked to a guy who repairs it and he walked me through steps to try and retreive the safe mode and go back to before the hacker/virus hit. It would not do this. So he said I'm hooped and he will clen it out and re do my hard drive and put improvements in for me.
Better firewalls and spybots and antivirus programs. He said it sound like a virus that goes through the dial ups, yet does not effect Sasktel's high speed. It seems people with cable through Shaw have not had any problems. My brother inlaw is on dial up also.
One good thing about high speed is it is well protected. Dial up, it seems like any script kiddie can get into and they just dont seem to be able to stop it.
It's most likely that only Windows is messed up. If you have a second computer (that's fully protected) you could hookup the corrupted hard drive and recover your data. It was more likely a virus as a hacker wouldn't bother with a dial-up connection. Hackers normally steal from the targeted computer. I prefer Norton over Mcafee because of the updating procedure. Norton lets you select what you want to update. Norton and Mcafee are equal. For the best firewall protection use Zone Alarm personal edition and it's FREE!
FYI I've done the hard drive copying thing many times with other peoples hardware.

They sell the so called bulletproof but they are not for novelist or beginners.I prefer mcafee because it is not self absorbed norton, ask you everything three times its a tumor like AOL but IM not knocking them because they are perfect for people who are not very good with computers. They are good teaching tools but try getting either one out of a computer.
Get comp back tomorrow. Theywere able to save everything they think. It was a virus left behind that jammed it. Now to invest into a stack of cds and burn those wedding photos and truck pics.
