Is there a way to tighten the mirror part of the TT mirror assembly? The big glass shakes when goint 65-70 to the point you can hardly see anything. One side it a tad tighter than the other, so i was wondering if there is a procedure for tightening them??
You could ummmm balance the tires I had the same situation on my last Super Duty with out of balance tires. There is a very small chance that the jackpost ball/socket connection is loose but if it is there is no way to tighten it up. You'll need new mirror glass which may/may not come with a jackpost service kit in case the installer screws up the stock pieces while fixing it. New mirror glass (the big one) was running about $48 per side.
i find that mine on my excursion, when they are all they way out, they vibrate. when in, they don't. oh, and no tire balance issues either. its because when the mirrors are all the way out, there is more chance to transfer the vibration all the way out to the end of a plastic mirror assembly. and mine are only about 2 months old. ordered them brand new from ford.
I had the same problem with the manual TT mirrors on my 1999 F-350. There is a way to tighten them. The front plastic housing is held on with four tabs that lock into the back housing. The tabs can be released with a flat screwdriver when the mirror is tilted for maximum opening at the top then the bottom. There are two tabs on top and two on the bottom. The front shell will then come off. The mirror is held with one bolt in the center and four pegs that pass through grommets. These grommets are the problem. Remove the mirror by removing the bolt or nut (can't remember which it is). I was able to tighten the fit by rotating the grommets 1/4 turn and putting it back together. If you can find replacement grommets that would be better. Hope this helps.
I am not familiar with the power adjusting or the newer trucks, mine is a 99 with the manual adjusting TT mirrors. Those are the instructions that I posted earlier.
i am glad i didn't try to pry them off. thanks for the update, i think i'll go to the dealer to see if they have an exploded view if the inside of the power mirrors.. thanks again.
My manual mirrors do not pry apart either. You have to get the screwdriver between the mirror and the shell and push on the tabs one at a time to release them. the front shell will then come off. Power mirrors may be different.
