2000 Ford Ranger 4x4 3.0L Flex Fuel Automatic. I have the ever annoying problem of the O/D light. The ABS light was on so I changed the speed sensor on the pumpkin. Now, a couple weeks later the O/D light starts flashing. I seems to only do this when I get back on the gas after taking a corner. It shifts hard from 1st to 2nd and the rest is fine. Could this be a 1st to 2nd shift solenoid gone bad. If so, where besides FORD can I get this. I am about ready to put this thing out of its misery! All help will be greatly appreciated.
From every experience I have ever had with a Ford AOD is that if that light starts to flash and you dont fix it immediately it spells certain doom for the tranny. Fix it ASAP and dont drive it till you do or you could very well be looking at a costly trans replacement or rebuild.
There are a couple of TSB's out for this problem. My 2001 3.0 auto does the same thing but only when it's cold outside (below 35 or so). If it happens it's always on the first two cycles of shifts from stop. If the light doesn't come on all is well for the rest of the time. Warm weather - no problem. I've tried changing fluid and filter and replacing the VSS but nothing helps. It's not leaving codes but one of the TSB's deals with the cold issue (programming change) and I'll try that next but HATE taking it to a stealership for anything. Wish Ford would get it's game together and take care of crap like this before they sell the vehicle or, atleast, offer some solutions. There's no doubt in my mind why they are losing market share! Problems like this just chase costumers away. If you find something that actually works please post back so the few of us with this issue might be able to fix it. Thanks. Sorry about the rant, I like my Fords and want to keep buying them but this issue and lack of real support is really starting to make me angry.

FLUID IS FINE. I HAVE TRIED 2 DIFFERENT SENSORS AND BOTH GIVE THE SAME RESULTS. COULD IT BE A LOOSE CONNECTION SOMEWHERE?
Well, get the code(s) checked and find out. That's what the flashing light is telling you to do. Being tranny related, I wouldn't wait this out.
With the decent handful of sensors in the tranny itself, much less everywhere else in the drivetrain, that's one heck of a guess you're asking for. Rough shifts aren't that healthy for any tranny.
