What would be the best gear ratio for 35's? The truck is driven on the road alot but also spends alot of time offroad. I like doin trails and crawlin if that makes a difference.
what kind of on road?? interstate or highway??? overdrive trranny?? manual or auto? what year/model truck?? what motor?? iwhtout knowing that...its hard to say because you could have a 300 w/ od or a 460 w/o od
Horsepower makes a big difference. I have 35's on my Bronco and F150 both have the same gears and tires. The f150 has a 302 and the Bronco has a slighlty built 351m. The difference is night and day. The old Bronco will smoke the crap out of my truck.
If it is for a 302/351/300 I would run 4.56. Anything else you should be able to run 4.11 with no problems.
Anyway here is a calculator.http://tyres1.com/calculators.html

You are talking 4.56 minimum here, not 4.10 with 35 for power overall performance. Below is a better calculator link.

???????
For your 5.0 I would run 4.56 gears. Also if your current gears are 3.73 and numerically lower you will need to change the front carrier if you are still running a dana 44. You can find the carriers pretty cheap on Fleabay.
But don't trust me Becuase I'm still running on 3.55's.
This is the exact same thing that I have been debating lately. Right now I have 30's with 3.55 gears, 300 I6, 5 speed manual and love the way it goes and the crawl it has. Using the calculators I see that if I want the same RPM as I have now when I put on my 35's I should go with 4.10's. If I go with 4.56 I will be up 200 rpm. Not that big of a deal espically considering the difference in towing and low end grunt. I would also suggest doing the crawl ratios for the different gears. I did that since I will be crawling around the bush during hunting season and pulling out trees for wood. My thoughts right now is that I can get a 4.10 set up cheaper then a 4.56. Gotta love money Good luck.
I actually wasn't bieng specific to your tcase, I was just saying that the final drive ratio will be based on which case due to differences in low range ratio such as an NP205 has a 1.97:1 low range but your case has a 2.71:1 ( think without looking that is right it's at least close) so your case would give you a much lower final drive ratio.
well it really wont be that low. he has a 5spd. if i were you id just go 5.13's being you have an overdrive anyways and you did say you spend alot of time offroad. also once money allows id also suggest a crawlbox or new t-case.
5.13s, he only wants to run 35s. It's not a jeep! 4.56 would be plenty, but if he stayed off road and only did little road driving then maybe 4.88, maybe.
the lower the better...i was at 42:1 with my 33's and it pretty much sucked...im now at 108:1 with my 35's and its great....he said its offroad alot so whatever. im just making a suggestion based off my expeirience.
