Electric shorts

I have a 1993 F350. Since i have gotten this truck there has been a problem with the electric inside the truck. First my radio went out an all my gauges. Then i have no inside lights at all and no outside dome light. I replaced the fuses and it worked for awhile then did the same thing. Now we don't know what to do because we can't fix it. if anyone has any i deas it would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

Look for either wiring that has been modified under dash or places where a wire is pinched probably around the door sill plates, take out the over head light fixture and check wires to it carefully for damage. Also check the door jamb switches for overhead lamps, they can leak if the rubber boot is cracked and will short out the fuses. Just look everything over carefully for anything that doesn't look original and go from there. Good luck.

Look very close at that outside dome light, I have heard that a few people have found that a screw on that light shorting out a wire there.

electric shorts

my 1992 radio would act up from time to time while driving like it would loose power and would go to 6:00 and turn to am radio.this went on for a couple of years.
then i would start to have dead battery in morning.when i bought the truck 6 yrs before you could pull ket out of switch when truck was running.i finely narrowed it down to faulty switch.i pulled fuse for radio, dim their are 2 fuses for
radio and this one runs back thru switch for power to clock which operates 24-7
when shorting to ground in switch would be like leaving key in the on position
all the time so try pulling this fuse only.my first question is does it still run and does your battery drain also?

Hey Qman! Electric Shorts aren't so bad. I use them up here in the late fall so that I can ride my motorcylce for just a few more weeks. I just plug 'em in along with my Widder vest and gloves and it's all warm and toasty - unless of course the temp adjuster gets stuck at WFO - which gets mighty painful in a hurry!

Sorry to say Mr. Rebelcowboy175 - I'm pretty sure that you are going to have to take a really close look at all of your light related wiring, starting under the dash as mentioned above. Clearly you have a live wire that is shorted out and draining the life out of your battery and causing all of your other woes as well. This will not be an easy job unless you stumble accross something really obvious. All you can do is start "somewhere" under the dash and keep looking. If you have a continuity tester that may help some for checking the connectivity along specific wires. I also agree that you should check that outside dome light as well. I had a similar problem on an old 1978 Big Bronco. It turned out that a poor ground at the right rear tail light was causing all of my llights to flicker and die.

Good luck with the hunt for the miscreant wiring.

Cheers!

Mike

Thumbs up electric shorts

their should be 2 fuses in fuse box under dash that are for radio.pull both and recharge battery and battery should hold charge.let set over night and recheck battery for drain.ill bet your memory in radio is shorting out and draining your battery as it sits.if battery maintains over night youll need to pull radio and replace.1 of the fuses is for radio, dim which controls flow to memory and the other operates radio and speed odometerand a few other things and you will have issues running truck during shifting if auto without this fuse in place.but you can run with the other out for radio, dim.iam interested if this works place respond after attempt
