Finally got rid of my '95 4WD Aerostar. I'll miss it. It was totaled in a rear end collision. The F150 that hit it barely had a scratch, but it buckled the frame rails on the Aerostar. Put a lot of work into it to get everything fixed and right. I don't doubt I would have gotten another 80k miles out of it. Nearly had a tear in my eye when I took it on that last drive to the junkyard.
On the bright side, I got a newer, younger model - 97 with only 56k on it currently (had 45k when I bought it almost a year ago).
Just wondering... what you paid for the 97, and was it also AWD? Thanks
I think I paid $5500 for the '97. More than I wanted to, but I figure that if I had to buy any other van with the same amount of miles, it probably would have been newer and cost a bit more. The '97 is not AWD and it's only a 3.0, which really isn't as much of an issue as I thought it would be. It gets along just fine over the mountain passes, but makes a little more engine noise and isn't as smooth as the 4.0. The better gas mileage is really appreciated.
Mike, you did not strip the '95 for parts that you might need later before taking her to her final death?
I tried, but none of the parts I recently replaced could be swapped. The new van is a 3.0 2WD, so I didn't get my money out of the halfshafts I put on recently. I also could not use the new heads from the 4.0, the new radiator from the 4.0, the recently cleaned fuel injectors, the floor mats (wrong color), and too many other parts that I can't remember. I did keep a box full of parts that I grabbed at the junkyard that should fit the new van. I would have rather had a 4.0 for the parts commonality, but I just couldn't pass up the younger, lower mileage 3.0 that I have now.
