Help! 2001 7.3L Down on Power
If you disconnect the EBP connector, all that will happen is that the EBP valve will return to the open position. The EBPV is a butterfly valve mounted in the turbo pedestal that closes to add load on a cold engine to help it warm up faster. When this valve is closed, it creates a large exhaust restriction. Disconnecting the sensor removes this restriction because the valve defaults to the open position when there is no sensor input. So if the EBP is not the root of your problem, it won't help the way it's running if you disconnect the sensor; i.e., if your turbo has gone south.
