Some potential upgrades..
I've heard that putting a aftermarket muffler such as a flowmaster will give me an extra MPG or 2.
Second is a Banks Transcommand to take care of the 'carlike' shifts when towing maxed out loads. Anyone have one of those? Opinions?
I think I need my manifold bolts replaces because I can hear an exhaust leak when first started and also with the radio down and accelerating. How much should that cost? Should I go to Ford or someone else?
If I get a Transcommans which controls the transmission sort of like a tuner does.. Would it be worth it to get a tuner too? I would want to run 87 Octane..
Give me your thoughts...
, one of the reasons I traded my '99. I had three missing on each side. If a couple of nuts are already snapped off the manifold has to come off to get the bolt shafts out. Figure about $1500 for a dealer to do both sides or about 12-16 hours of labor for you to do it yourself. It could go easy or it could be a pain. That's why I traded. The new bolts from Ford are stainless so at least they are aware of the problem.
I was using a Diablo Predator that made a HUGE improvement in throttle response and shifting. Might have seen a little improvement in mpg but a pretty big difference in power, especially with 91 octane gas. I ran 87 oct when not towing and just adjusted the timing so it did not ping. Then when I wanted to tow I put in 93 and advanced the timing back and had more power. Worked pretty well. Plus it reads and resets trouble codes and can be easily updated for free from diablosport.com.
I have it on eBay right now since I just traded the truck for a Powerstroke. If you are interested it works on 99-03 F-series 4.6 and 5.4L. The Buy It Now price is $275. It is like new. If you do the Buy It Now I will ship to free since you are an FTE member. Just put a note in that you are from FTE.
Hope this helps!
