Heater hoses

Ok i just replaced the upper raditor hose in heavy rain on the side of the road....And heater core the next day, I'm replacing bottom raditor hose tomorrow.

I noticed on the heater hoses that one has a value with a screw off top-That says antifreeze only on the screw top--What is this for and is it needed? because it seems that is where i'm leaking at one of the screw points to the value.

Thanks All

What you are refering to sounds like a flush adapter once offered in an aftermarket flush kit by prestone or similar company. Get rid of it for the exact reason you noted; they like to develop leaks over time. I assume that when you say value, you really mean port .

Yeah ditch the dumb thing. When i flush my trucks cooling system i pull the thermostat housing and pull the thermostat and just snug the housing back down (it leaks but it's just water). Then i blow water in the upper radiator hose and watch the crap come out.

It looks like a cap inline with the hose 6 inches from the heater core inelt, when screwed off when truck is hot antifreeze comes out under pressure and when cold it just looks like a fill point when unscrewed, it's coming off.
