To start I have read almost all threads that I could find in regards to my question....and all I found out is that I can barely understand all the acronym's that you use.
I have just bought a 1986 Ford F250 Lariet supercab with a 460. I will be using it for surf trips to Mexico, and for pulling my race trailer (7 X 14) with a couple of superbikes, tools, and gear...my guess is with the weight of the trailer and the contents I won't break 2500#.
Lots of freeway miles...I worry about gas mileage...and reliability. I love the look of the truck, and the way it drives...sold a 2004 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton...so to say that I lost a payment and gained an old friend is true.
Ok now my question:
The Truck has 73,000 original miles on it and I want to increase fuel mileage when I am using it to commute, and power when I pull my trailer. The motor is bone stock. I do know that many performance mods will increase fuel mileage if you keep your foot out of it...which I am very good at...
so
1. I am inept when it comes to working on vehicles, can someone suggest a good mechanic here in the southwest (Sottsdale, Az)?
one simple mod that will add fuel mileage is a less restrictive intake. Look into a k+n filter for it, that will probably help. Also, make sure all of your ignition system is fairly new, that is spark plugs, wires, disributor cap, rotor. When that starts going bad it will kill your mileage. I don't know about exhaust on the big gas engines, I know that a nice open exhaust will work wonders on my 7.3 diesel, to the amount of 3-4 miles to the gallon. hope this helps.
