65 4x4 replacement?
thanks
the F250 depending on wheel diameter that came stock will have the large opening fender. 16" and 16.5" had the small opening and wheels over 17" had the large opening.
All f350 4x4s have the large opening fenders.
All 65 four wheel drives use the 61 to 64 core support.
the 66 F100 used the 2 wheel drive support and battery mount. F250s and up still use the 61 to 64 support.
The inner apron will also be different from a 2 wheel drive for 65 it will use a rounded apron that is common to the F350s with the battery being under the passenger floor.
In 66 the F100 used the same squareish aprons as the 2 wheel drive and battery mount. F250 and up still used the rounded apron of the F350s and the battery is again under the passenger floor.
some basics on 4x4 front clips.
Remember the four wheel drives for 65 and 66 still used the carry over 64 cab with the instep. the only exclusion to this is the 66 F100 four wheel drive.

The key is F100 only, and only in 66. 65 and 66 f250s and 350s in four wheel drive used the eariler cabs that do not have the upper apron mounts.
All four wheel drives with the exception of the 66 F100 use the 61 to 64 2 wheel drive core support.
The 66 F100 in long bed had a different wheel base than the F250s, and are the ONLY trucks to come with the 64 to 66 new type bed. ALL F250 4x4s will have the eariler 57 to 63 beds to compensate for the longer wheel base.
The 66 F100 4x4 was also the only year to be offered in a short bed configuration.
Now i am only talking of a factory stock truck. the way Henry made them. A very popular swap is to take a 67 to 79 frame and swap a 2 wheel drive body on to the frame. then it will have the low floor cab.
A real good indicator of a factory cab on a 65 F100 and F250 is to look at the pulls for the vents. there will only be one side, the drivers with a pull the passenger side will have a triangular type that is on each side on 2 wheel drive cabs. The dash will also be dimpled for the pull but not punched.
A true 66 F100 4x4 will not have the dimples and will have triangular vents. but the 66 F250 will have the tell tale pull on the drivers and triangular vent on passengers same as the F350s
Another detail is that the 65 and 66 four wheel drives with the exception of the F100 use a completly seperate heater box than the 2 wheel drive units. they use the box from F350s and are a homolgimation of pre 65 parts and after 65 parts.
The cab for my super crew project was a caunck crown F250 four wheel drive. and it is a hodge podge of mixed 61 to 64 and 65 66 parts. Basically a F350 cab.
