If your 79 truck does not have the automatic locking hubs you can go with a standard hub refer to broncograveyard.com (Mile Marker Stainless Supreme Hubs Dana 44) part # 22188. This Mile Marker D44 Stainless Steel Supreme Hubs sells for $63.00 and includes both hubs with internals and is a good quality product. These locking hubs will interchange standard locking hubs from 1975 to 1996 Fords.
At this same site listed above you can also replace your hubs with Warn Lock-Outs, Premium hub Pair part # 22198. Any of these hubs will work very good on your 1979 4x4.
If your truck has the automatic locking hubs than you and would like locking hubs, than you will need put a conversion in the transfer case to make it a part time.
