underdash plug ??

2002 F-250 with 5.4 engine. i am contemplating adding a prodigy brake controller sometime soon. today i was cleaning the inside and noticed a plug mounted to the lower portion of the dash just above and to the right of the gas pedal. is this where i would connect to ?? if not what is that plug for ??

I believe you're referring to the OBDII plug. The one used to download diagnostic information from the truck.

The plug you are looking for is behind the fuse cover located under the steering wheel. Remove this cover and located in the extreme upper right hand corner of the open area, will be a female plug, this connects the brake controller to your Ford prewired trailer braking system and tail light system. I just install a brake controller in my truck last month. You will need to purchase an adapter to this plug to the controller, if one is not provided, mine was in the glove box.

On my '02 it was not behind the fuse cover. Remove the dash panel under the steering wheel and look all the way to the right. You should see the plug, if memory serves me correctly it's attached to the support beam. If you can not find it I can send you a picture of mine.

That sounds like where it is on my '04. Like toddyw, the matching plug w/wire's, along with the instructions for using it, were in a plastic bag in the glovebox when I bought my truck.
