I have a '53 V8 flathead sitting in my garage, waiting to be restored. As far as I can tell, the truck it came from (F100) was completely original, and I'm sure the engine is as well. The color is red (including the cilinder heads, intake manifold, breather pipe, all red). It's not a dark red, more like orange-red.
Try this link, and click on 'engine colors'. According to the information on there, it should be green or tangerine. I guess tangerine is the color we're looking for.
Is there a howto on posting links? Link came from the 'Flathead V8 and flathead 6' forum, did a search on 'engine color'. I just copied/pasted the link to my reply. Wrong?
Try copy/pasting it to a new window, works for me.
You're right, the list says green for trucks. Maybe in my truck the engine was swapped for a Ford passenger car engine at some stage?
The bolt-on bell housing on my engine is green however. I should've mentioned this earlier. Not a nice sight, this red-green combination. Fortunately, there's enough crud covering it making it mostly even brown.
