My tranny went the other day. Won't do anything, R,D,2,or 1. The local, very reputable tranny shop wants $2400 for a complete rebuild. 12 month 12000 mile warranty. What has everyone been paying for rebuilds?
I called the local dealership and they said msrp on a new tranny is $2100. I got one guy at the dealership said he would give me one for $1778. 3 year, 36 month warranty. Will install myself.
My rebuild was $2880 exch at Transmission Exchange in Portland OR, but that was for the Tow Matrix super heavy duty version, including a billet torque converter and a new 25k cooler. If you use your truck for any towing or other abusive application, get a souped up tranny. No matter what you get, change the oil religiously with a good synthetic or at least 1-1/2 pints of Red LubeGuard additive. I change my oil & filter at 25,000 mile intervals, including T/C drain.
My 90 IDI was $1900. My 96 was $2400. My 97 was $3400. It has the billet TC, a larger cooler and every mod in the trans possible. All the prices were installed. I run synthetic in all of them.
Go to www.freewaytransmissions.com and click on the red ESE in the lower right corner. I use this in mine and it works great. It eliminates a lot of potential problems.
