Well I Quit

I quit driving for the company out of Iowa yesterday.

They just couldn't satisfy my income needs any longer. I raised the issue with them many times & they kept saying the they are working on it, but I couldn't wait any longer. I quit yesterday while sitting in the petro truck stop in Atlanta. I did take the truck back to the Birmingham terminal just to be nice.

Don't worry though, I had another job lined up before I officially quit. On my way there now to start orientation on Monday in Natchez, Mississippi.

The only problem is these damn Greyhound buses & the waiting time. I have a hour layover here in Nashville & a 4.5 hour layover in Memphis.

Greywolf, do you feel like picking me up in a couple hours and taking me to graceland?

Why do these things happen when I just got comfortable enough to crack a bottle?

I wish I could do that. Hell - I WISH my truck could, but it has a problem I'm working on.

Dammit - I know that station too... They don't put bus stops in the best part of town, do they? My god, I feel so low over this....

Damn thing was cutting out all the way to Munford and back like it was starved for fuel. And i know the pump was running, and it had a full tank.

I'm struck out.

Goddangit, I'm just struck out....
(And sick of it)

What time is the layover? Maybe I can work something. I have a neighbor with wheels.

HELLO?
What's your ETA memphis?

ETA for memphis is about 2.5 hours. still 187 miles away. I bus out of memphis leaves at 8:30 in the morning.

No big deal. I mentioned it as a joke, but if I can get entertained for a few hours that would be cool also.

Might be a bit early for me to roust out papa Smurf.

Dang, I wish the timing was better...

i hope you have a pillow for the window so you can sleep on those dang rides - I found that the only way to sleep on a bus was to get the window seat and lean on it. But you still need something for your head to rest on...

Hell, the only thing open in memphis on a sunday at that hour is the waterway.\

If I'd known a few days in advance, I'd have by the jeezuss MADE something happen...

I guess all I can say is watch out for the lowlifes outside the station. I can't get there, and it ain't a good feeling for me.

Good luck Parks...Trucking companies tend to draw a line in the sand and will let good employees go, cause there will always be another driver out there that can take your place for less money and less vacation.
Don't forget, we could always use you on the dark side, that is, become a Local pick-up and delivery driver. Home every night, good pay, and all the city driving and stalled interstate traffic you can possibly stand. I don't know about Midwest area wages, but the Northeast local P&D drivers average 20 to 22 bucks an hour.

20-22 per hour? I can handle that but I don't think the poor hill billies in the southeast can afford it.

Too bad Parks. If I'd have known, I'd have picked you up in Bham and ferried you up to memphis.
