I have a horrible hum/vibration both from starting and slowing down, But only up till about 30mph anything faster and it goes away. It shakes so bad at around 10mph that my dash and the whole truck feels like it's coming unglued! This just started this afternoon and it's driving me NUTS. I checked the front end and there is no play in anything. I did try locking the hubs and putting it in 4WD, this did nothing.
What are you driving? year? jack up the front and spin wheels see if front axles are turning. Wheels bent? Bearings gone grab wheels see if you can rock them while on the jack.
yes, more info on your truck would be better to have to diagnose the problem, i had my wheel bearing go out 2 times, on 2 different vehicals, never any shaking or anything like that, i had a chevy truck that the front wheel weights fell off and that thing shook like hell. but wheel bearings going out could feel different all the time. but defintly get the bearings checked out in case thats it and it costs you more money in damage.
Sorry should have filled you guys in on what i'm driving. it's a 2002 F350, V10. It has a 4'' pro comp lift in it. Yes the drive shaft has been shimed down. I have jacked it up and checked for play but there is none. not in the ball joints or in the wheel bearing. I just put new wheels and tires on it last week. I havn't had any problems till today though. The excact senerio of when i first felt it was i drove around a corner, just going into it it started to shake a bit, then coming out of it it shook a bit, then it went away. Like I said this just happened this afternoon. While driving down the road, I'm kind of at a loose as to what it is. I was almost thinking brakes but it doen't seem to get any better or any worse if you step on the brakes. you can feel it in the steering wheel, but then again the whole damn truck is shaking. swearving down the road, loading up the bearing doesn't seem to change it either. I am a certified tech, so i'm not new to cars at all. Unfortunatly I work at an import dealer, So the whole Ford thing is new to me.
How long has the lift been installed? May need to check to make sure everything installed with the lift. I had this problem with my Jeep a few weeks after installing a lift. Went back and retorqued everthing and problem went away.
I installed the lift myself about 2 weeks ago. retorqued everything last week. To specs I might add. I just finished crawling around under the damn truck again. No the shafts are not spinning when you spin the wheel, with the tire jacked up mind you. Front tires are spinning true as well I should add. lol. I'm starting to think i should have bought an import! LOL. No, it's not THAT bad yet.
Inner needle bearing on the inside of the main wheel bearing could be bad. Jack er up and turn the wheel all the way to one side and turn the wheel see if it tries to grab the axle.
Do you think a bad rear ujoint or steady/center bearing on the drive shaft could make the truck shake so bad that it shakes the steering wheel? I mean the whole damn truck shakes. It's pretty f'n bad. Oopps. I should add that I did check the rear ujoints I didn't take the shaft out though. But it's not like they are falling out or any play in them.
It's LS, and it shakes so damn bad I actually pulled over to check if the tires were falling off. (Which they weren't) But anything over 35 and the shaking and the noise all go away and it drives like it always has. The shake is really really bad at lower speeds. Although you tend not to notice any noise or shaking if your on the gas. Only on coasting or decel.
Can't really tell on corners. Your not really driving fast enough. I'd say it's worst at around 10-15. Thats the "death shake" at around 25-35 it's only noise and a little bit of shaking. But on decel. or coasting thats when it's really bad.
