For dana's it's stamped dana on the back of the rearend. Others have a tag on the back of the rearend and the rest have a tag on top buy the yoke side. After that if you need help decifering the tag we'll need more info like sierraben has stated. If the door jam sticker is in place on the drivers door the the axel code will tell you.
