Short lining vs long lining
On a recent topic, rebocardo explained why the brake shoe with the short lining goes to the front, and the longer lining goes to the rear.
I did a brake job on the car last year and got it backwords. And yes, obsessive compulsive had to yank the wheel off immediately and look.
Is this a safety problem? Do I need to change them, or wait untill they wear out and get it right the next time? The brakes work fine.

The brakes will work and you may not notice the difference but the rear shoe does more work and due to having 20% less lining area, will wear out much faster than normal and the front shoe will show little wear.

If you were in an accident and the vehicle was inspected for safety violations you could be held liable for improper brakes.

they would not even notice and a safety check almost never happens. they just don't have time nor do they care.

The car is old but in very good shape, it gets driven about 4000 miles a year. The brake job was with everything new except the drums and rotors, they were turned.
As for an accident and liability, something else to worry about.
Thanks for the responses. Viva forum search.
