pulled codes that indicated bk1 sensor 1 and bank 2 sensor 1 were lean and the overall system was rich... tried to isolate the problem, tested the 02 sensors and the one was working normally the second was intermittent... cleared the codes; back the next day and check engine stays on continuously now... i understand the most common cause for these codes is a short somewhere... the where is the key... any guesses where to start looking before i just start swapping parts?
Ok finally got the codes pulled and they are P2196 and P2197 indicating Bank 1 Sensor 1 running lean; and Bank 2 Sensor 1 running lean. In the past I had also the code P2198? and it showed overall rich. Does that help; and what to do?
Check for vacuum leaks, change fuel filter it not already done. If you are lean it is either from too much air, or not enough fuel, or both.
You might want to clean the MAF sensor, especially if you have a K&N filter, as the oil can coat the sensor and give bad readings. The MAF could also have dust on it too. The plastic end on the cone air filter will sometimes come off and let dirty air into the intake which will contaminate the MAF.
