if you plan on using it off road only then yes you can get a waver. but you are never ever allowed to drive it on public streets. there is several laws which prohibit the installation of an older engine in a newer vehicle.
The blow out problem is a lot less common on the v10's (and its not really that common on the 5.4 to begin with from what i'm told here..) . I'm not sure of the specifics of it, but i do think you will need a new computer and wiring harnesses.
I really think your best option is to build up the 5.4.
But if you really want to do the v10 you're best of finding a doner truck that has been wrecked to take everything from.
Blowing Plugs Out is a very comon thing that happens with both of 5.4 and V-10 My 5.4 is in the shop as we speak my brother inlaws F-350 just came out of the shop he has a V-10 in his truck for blowen out spark plug.
This is the main reason I wanted to go back to the old school 460.
The 460 heads, for one thing, are garbage compared to the Triton heads.
Why step back? It will never get a waiver to be roadworthy in Kali.
A 5.4L to v10 swap in a SD truck...engine with harness and just drop in and drive away, pretty much.
Tranny on back to the rear is the same...radiator is the same, body harness is the same. That might be all there is to that. That's why it's only a $600 option from the factory. You bought all the other heavy pieces getting the base truck.
Get the heads helicoiled or whatever option you wish to go before putting the engine in. Oh yeah, duh, get the computer as well. Boy, I'm tired....long change is next weekend. About darn time I get my week off again!
I posted thoughts about a SD truck 5.4L to v10 swap before...how far back it is, I don't know, since 12s at the plant run things together big time.
