35s will never fit in there on stock height. 32s maybe 33s I would say is probably as far as you can go. Not too wide or you'll be rubbing up on stuff with the wheels turned.
I have 33x12.50x15 tires and 15x10 rims on my 79 F150 4x4. I have no trouble at all turning or going over reasonable hills or ditches. Its not ready for rock crawling by any means but works just fine on normal driving offroad. I might also add that my rear leaf springs are sagging so when I hit a pretty big bump when loaded it rubs very very slightly. If I wanted 35x12.50s on my truck Id probably need a 2-3" lift kit but seems like Ive heard of people running those tires without lift. Hope it helps. Check my gallery thats the truck with the 33s and no lift, but its under construction now.
You can fit 33" tires with a stock F-150 4wd without rubbing. You can fit 35" tires with a stock F-250 4wd without rubbing(this is what you may be thinking of STGFordCrazy04).
know anyone with a F150 up until about 96 with the tires you want? maybe they would let you try them on. Also another thing to think of is every brand of tires have a slightly different height. Some tires might measure 32.8" and others might measure 33.4" Super Swampers are world famous for having taller than sized tires. In some cases they are even 3/4" bigger. Also weight of vehicle and tire pressure play a factor. Its a toss up sometimes. I know personally Wild Country 33x12.50x15 tires on 15x10 rims fit fine on my 79. If you are anywhere close St George SC PM me and Ill be happy to let you bolt on all 4 tires and rims.
I Am In Waynesville Nc. Little Too Far But Thanks For The Offer!
I Have 31/10.5/r15 In It Now, When They Were New And I Would Turn All The Way To The Leht Or Right They Rubbed A Little, But That Went Away.
So I Thinh That I Will Get 32/10.5/r15 And Try To Be Happy With Them Till They Are Bald And Then Maby Get The 33/12.5/r15.
MBB,
Yeah maybe so. I know I cant put 35s on mine without lifting.
I had on some 36" tires on my Bronco(same set up as a F-150) with out a lift, but I couldn't hit a road bump or turn with out them rubbing. Now I have a 6" lift, and I couldn't make them rub if I wanted.
Now, BIG-BAD-794X4, would kind of rims did you run, stock? If you had stock rims then the rubbing was because of backspacing. If you move up to 33x12.5L15 with a new set of rims that have a backspacing anywhere from 3.5-4" instead of stock 2.75" then you should be fine.
As for what mud tire to run, it all depends of what you use the truck for. If it is a daily driver that rarely sees mud, then some BFG, Goodyear, or somthing of that sort in a radial M/T would work, but if it is a hardcore of roader that rarely sees road, then I would suggest some supper swampers possibly LTBs 33x13.50L15. Those tires would be great for mudding without a lift on a 73-79 F-100 or 150
Well, I know you can put spacers that would of course make your back spacing larger. You can go to www.performancewheel.com and look up some of theirs. I saw a set for about what you would need for $80(at least I hope it was a set and not one). I personally wouldn't want to put spacers, and would just buy some new rims(about $50 a peice, depending on what you want).
I would rather run 26" tires that are 4.5" wide than put spacers between my hub and rim. Not only do they put more stress on the axle causing wheel bearings to wear out much quicker but IMO they are not as safe. Thats just my .02. You can buy a set of chrome steel or black powder coated rims in 15x10 for about $50-60 each. and you will be much more happy with the look and handling versus the spacers. When it comes to something as important as keeping your butt planted to the road dont play around and skimp on money. 32x11.50 tires are nice but actually about the same price as the 33s Im not trying to talk you out of anything just giving my humble opinion.
Waynesville......thats right near Maggie Valley isnt it?
STGFordCrazy04, just asking where can you get some chrome 15x10 rims for $50-60, I know about a year ago prices went up a good bit, and know I'm having trouble finding chrome rims for under $68(cheapest ugliest ones).
I do agree new rims would be a better choice, and you might not even need 15x10s you could get away with 15x8s if you don't air down your tires.
