well I am a new member and I am asking a question based on my GF's 1999 4WD Ford Explorer.
in March of 2002 my gf got a factory FORD alarm system installed in car. the battery died and was we installed a new one 2 days ago. Well now we are having a problem with her factory alarm system that was installed a year after she got the car. I called FORD and they said the alarm has to be de-activated or turned of. How do I do this? They said there is a switch on the alarm system box under the dash *near her feet* All I saw was a little white round switch that you turn. I turned it and the little red light on the box turned off. yet it would not start!
what should I do.. we need to fix this as soon as possible it is stranded at her work

Sorry to here that. if you can disconnect the alarm maybe it will start for you..im not so sure but i never had that kind of problem but its worth a try. good luck
I'm not familiar with your alarm system...could that switch have been an ignition kill switch? Maybe you can switch it back to the original position & start the vehicle?
Do you have an instruction manual for the alarm? If not, maybe you can call the dealer & they can assist.
well no such luck we are getting a company to come out and dis-arm the alarm for $150. it sucks neither of us have a lot of money but it has to be done
well we changed the battery and everything worked well... BUT!! when you stuck the key in the ignition to start the car it would not work... you flip the key over and insert it again and it would start.... she drove it for a day and then it died on her outside her work. The red "THEFT" light keeps blinking in her dash when she tries to start it.
When you say it died on her at work. Define died. Was she driving and it died and would not start or was it OK when she got to work but wouldn't start when she came out from work.
A rapidly flashing theft light, or PATS light, usually indicates a problem with the keys or the PATS transponder...happended to my 2003...fortunately mine was under warranty.
Does she have another key? That's the first thing I would try.
If that doesn't work I would then disconnect the battery for 15 minutes so everything resets. If that doesn't work the next thing I would do would be to turn on the key and try to jump the solenoid. If that fails I'm calling AAA to tow it to the dealer to diagnose the problem.
She parked it.. turned it off.. worked for 12 hours and then came out and it did not start.
Well we had someone from the alarm store come out. He said that the FORD key is not letting the car start because it he says that the car thinks its the wrong key. He suggested calling FORD dealerhship... GIVING THE VIN number, the MODEL and everything to get a NEW KEY for that car for $100. He was out side her work leaving the key in the car for 10mins waiting for that THEFT light to stop blinking. Is he on the right path?
what the deal? Should I try to disconnect the battery before spending $100 on a key?
