carb problem

I'm working on my 73 F250 4x4 and...
I just got a 4 barrel intake off a 390 to put on my 360, that will work right? But how about this, I just rebuilt a 600cfm holley carb, then held it up to the existing 2 barrel inorder to see if I would have to make any changes. Well I see the fuel line comes from a different angle, and main vacuum is a bit different,WHAT, no kick down lever for the transmission!!! What the heck is that about? Don't all vehicles need a kick down? What can I do about that? Is there a simple modification I can do, or did I get a totally usless carb for my truck? Please help... Arggg...

There are all sorts of applications of carbs for different vehicles.
The thing I notice most are linkage differences.
I think it would have been more advantageous to have written down everything about your engine before buying.

Maybe post all the things about the engine and a big help would have been a number from the previous carb.

Well, you’re not going to like hearing this but Holleys come in stick and auto versions with the Ford kick-down. You have to keep that in mind when scrounging for the GT and CJ Holleys. Some people will tell you to just run without the kick-down but my tranny guy says the pressure is too hard on the transmission. The intake should swap over with no problem.

What kind of carb do you have? I made the mistake once of ordering a Holley carb for my car and the parts guy didn't ask me if I needed it for a auto or not and when I got it I had the same trouble as you have. Did some checking and I could order just the shaft with the kick down on it, cheeper than another carb as I couldn't take it back as I had already used it. Not too hard to change, just had to file off the ends of the screws so I could take them out and put in the new shaft and butterflies and make sure you stake the new screws so you don't have to worry about them ending up in your motor. Good luck Greg NE
