Ive heard different tire's cause different Mileage. If so what have you seen .I have 03EB . I had a 97EB and went to Geolanders and I thought Mine went down 1-2 MPG on the highway. we only had them on the Truck for 2 months then we sold it. Any feedback let me know.
Depend on a lot of factors. unsprung weight is the key. If you went up in size or plys can make a difference. All terrain vs touring etc. Air pressure makes a big difference.
I've recently put on a set of Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors on my '00 XLT Sport. No question about it, my gas mileage has went down. The majority of my driving is highway, and as accurate as I can tell it went down about 3mpg. Quiet frankly who gives a damn on a full tank on equal driving we're only talking 90 miles lost.....if that is going to break the bank then I have no right driving an Expedition, lol The tires are outstanding and make the ride quality far better. I couldn't care less about the MPG.
ride quality and Quite ride are very important to me . Im just at the point of getting new skins . My mileage isnt bad ,I get about 18 to 19 on the highway and together about 14.5 . Town is what kills it. This is my 2nd EB and three explorers and a HUMMER H2 . My 03 gets about the same as my Limited 02 Explorer V8 . and alot better than my 97. I would get about 15 Highway. My Hummer would get around 14.5
The rubber compounds in tires are not all equal. A tougher rubber compound with a higher mileage warranty will mean way better mpg compared to soft junk like kellys.
Usually tires that warranty higher mileage are made from harder rubber which does not flex as much when rolling. Less flex means a 'harsher hit' and more noise.
check out tirerack.com they have in depth reviews of many tires. i ended up going with firestone destination a/ts
al
How are those Firestone's? Are they loud?
I need new tires and have been going back and forth about the Destination A/T's and the Destination LE. I am running 265/70r17's and the cost difference is about $25.00 per tire. ($100 vs $125)
no, they're very quiet. they actually look a bit more aggresive than i realized, but they're nice and quiet. they handle much better than the contis i had on before.
so far i'm very happy, but i've only had them about a week now.
