I've had a Blackhawk socket set for almost twenty years now. The ratchets slip sometimes but the sockets have held up. I now use a mixture of Craftsman with them. The set was a gift from my father. I'd never heard of Blackhawk before then and not again 'til I read this.
I have a set of blackhawk tools that I bought at a local auto parts store in '65,they have been put thru it all since then , and are still going strong. I have snap-on,proto,some matco, and craftsman tools and the blackhawks are just as good as any of them.
My dad owns a auto parts store, was a BIG A Auto but we changed over to NAPA. Blackhawk was a independent entity till the late 90's until they almost bankrupt and stanley bought them basically for the name. The tools made by them are not of the quality they were when we sold them. In fact, its hard to get them to warranty the old stuff. I tell you what though if you need some tough tools, call NAPA they may be a lil' higher, but, you get what you pay for guys. I am 20 and have had the same set for 6 years now and have not had one failure. You may say I prolly don;t do anything to abuse themm, but, I work on Motorcycles to Bulldozers everday. Also, the best investment you may wanna look into is Gearwrench, also a entity of NAPA.
