Has anyone done this to thier truck (msg below)? My father-in-law has a 2005 XLT and it didn't come with the TBC and would like to add it. I found the broadcast msg on the dieselmann site.
I checked on the cost for the 6.0L and the 5C3Z-19H332-BA has Ford list price of $505.67; your price is $442.46.
I was wondering what the new master cylinder costs and/or part number and what the dealer charges for the re-program of the IP. I'd like to get a ball park cost for the other items.
Thanks all,
Chris
Installing TowCommand on 05 F-Series:
There is now a kit available to install TowCommand trailer braking system on trucks that were not originally equiped at the factory. For diesel and all dual rear wheel applications use kit 5C3Z-19H332-BA. For gasoline trucks with single rear wheels use kit 5C3Z-19H332-AA. Broadcast Message 4065, 4643, 4937.
If a TowCommand brake controller is dealer installed on an 05 truck, it may not work correctly unless a master cylinder with a brake pressure transducer is installed, and the instrument cluster reconfigured to recognize the TowCommand. Broadcast Message 4642, 4928.
You are better off buying an aftermarket trailer brake controller. I bought the prodegy brake controller for $150.00 installed. I bought mine at a local trailer shop. The prodegy is made by the same company that makes the one from the factory. My brake controller works better than the one on the trucks at work that come from the factory. You can get the after market one for a fraction of the cost and it works just as good if not better.
I too have an O5 F-250 PSD without factory TowCommand. With this kit, is a "do it yourself" install feasible? I'm pretty handy with tools but it has been years since I have done brake work (and that was on a '72 Mercedes) so I am unsure about the master cylinder replacement. Plus the bit about instrument cluster reconfiguration makes it sound like a dealership job. I have also seen comments about a reflash also needed.
i am also really interested in this matter. i currently own a 2005 F-250 with the factory controller and to me it works great stopping my #11000 5ver. however i am in the process of purchasing a 2005 F-250 King Ranch edition that does not have the brake and would like to add it myself. PLEASE SOMEBODY RESPOND TO THIS DISCUSSION WITH KNOWLEDGE!
