I have a 1994 F350 7.3L turbo Diesel. Tranny shifts fine but won't lock up the torque converter when at highway speeds. If I accelerate it will lock but as soon as I let up on the accel. it unlocks. I put in a new TPS and a new VSS. I ran a check for codes and I have none. Fluid is clean and to the proper level. Tranny was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago.
My E4OD does the same thing. As soon as I take my foot off the gas, it unlocks. I don't know if it's expected behavior or not, but there are no other problems with it. It still shifts great at 120k.

I think the TPS (really called FIPL on a diesel) is not adjusted correctly. I think it is reading too low so that it will only lock when the pedal is pushed further.
I drove it last night and it started to work properly. The Torque converter would lock. I'm wondering if I have an electrial problem in the brake circuit since it is tied in with the torque converter locking solenoid so that it unlocks when the brakes are applied.
That's the way it is supposed to work. Nothing wrong.
I believe he is talking about setting the cruise and it unlocks. In which case, there is something wrong for sure. Only when you completely let off and coast should the converter unlock.
it's not the cruise control. We have had dryer weather lately and the tranny is working fine. I'm guessing it is the transmission range sensor. Ford has had a problem with water intrusion with the wiring connector for this sensor
Mine is doing the same thing, im glad someone elses e4od is doing this also, that tells me its a common problem. My e4od is out of a 91 F-150 and i put it in my 88 F-150, i also had to swap the wiring harness and fuel system, witch took 3 weeks to complete. My tranny also does not like to go into 2nd gear when u first start it up but after it shifts once its fine after that. Any help on eaither problem would be great.
