Question Exhaust Suggestions

Now that I have my truck all together again and working I am preparing to do more work to see what can be broken

I have (Bassani) short pipe, bolt-on headers on my truck. They connect to the stock (dual cat) exhaust. I am at a high altitude, 6000+.

What I am looking for are any kits that might allow me to have dual exhaust.

Since I have two cats (they are in-line) am I able to use one cat per exhaust pipe if I go to a dual exhaust system?

If anyone has any good resources for this please pass them along. Ideally, I'd like to do this myself to save $$ but I am not dead-set on doing it myself if this is a relatively cheap operation.

Thanks,

You'll want to just replace the stock cats - you can get hi-flow's from summit for about $60ea in whatever diameter you want.

I'm not aware of any true dual exhaust kits out there for your truck, or mine lol. You could pick up a bassani Y-pipe (comes w/ or w/o cat) and run 3" single into a muffler w/ dual outlets in 2 1/2" pipe...mandrel bent...and it would probably fit the bill for ya.

That's what my truck is currently setup with, ford headers, bassani y-pipe into 2 cats with flowmaster 40 series muffler with dual 2 1/2" pipes out the back to I think 3 1/2" tips.

I'd say a true dual would need to be custom made.

Over the next year I'm going to completely change out my exhaust - long tube headers with true duals - 1 cat per side - 1 muffler per side - 3" diameter mandrel bent out the back to the 3 1/2" tips.

This is exctly what I want to do, use 'true' long pipe headers and have the system just like you describe. When this engine dies I want to have the good exhaust to use with a new engine...just a matter of cost, not time.

But that was what I was afraid of that there are no kits out there. That means I need to buy a welder (dammity, oh damn ) and do the work myself. Oh well, more tools.

Joe.

Well - that exhaust I'm speaking of is for about 500hp. You're running about 300-350 or so right now. An oversized exhaust on a truck is not a good combination...

Even at 500hp - it's a big exhaust.

Choose wisely.
