Need help with error codes

I need a little help figuring out what is wrong with my truck. It's a 2000 F-350, 7.3L. Suddenly, it started running roughly and the check engine light came on. After setting for eight hours while I was at work, it ran o.k. but started the same symptoms again shortly thereafter. I checked the error codes with my SCMT-1705. It gave me a P-1316, which my list describes as a "injector circuit/IDM codes detected". I cleared this code with my tuner, and it hasn't come back, but the truck is still running roughly and the check engine light is still on. Anyone have any idea what the problem might be? Where do I need to start looking? Thanks in advance for the help!

the Redtaurus94

You described the same symptoms my truck was doing, My problem was the UVC harness under the value cover, The Stealership told me it was the IDM because the code came back ( IDM failure ) . $ 1,400.00 later and a new IDM ,the problem was a $ 16.00 UVC wire harness, I was SOL . CHECK THE UVC FIRST!!!
If you go back a couple pages, Abigjeep on 12-26-05 has a post with the same problem, his fix was the harness. Good luck.

OK....gonna take a look into the problem tomorrow. Anyone know of a tutorial on this job, or maybe someone who has pictures posted online? Anything that might help a shade-tree mechanic would be greatly appreciated.........

WOW, maevans!! That's a fabulous website! Thanks for sharing it!

I had a Ford tech check it this morning. He did that buzz test the www.forddoctorsdts.com article talked about. I heard all 8 injectors buzz, but number 8 sounded a little different than the others. Issues showed up with #s 4, 6 & 8, so I know which side is the problem. The tech mentioned that he thought the UVC harness was about $85 at the Ford dealer, and the injectors were $300+ each. He recommended that I change the harness, the gasket and the #8 injector, since it sounded different, I guess. He also said that the #8 injector is different than the other 7....a little longer, I think he said. I don't want to replace that injector unless it is absolutely necessary, and naturally I don't want to pay the dealer price if I can do better some place else. Where'd you guys get yours? Once again, thanks for all your help....

Suggest doing a search on injectors. There's a TON of options, a lot more than can be covered with one post.

There is no physical difference between the "long lead" injector and the rest of them. The difference is in the electrical pack on top of the injector....which might explain it sounding different.

Can you be more specific about the "issues" with 4, 6, and 8? Still sounds like a harness to me.

I always imagined that the plunger was a different length. Learn something new every day.

Not according to the boys at Swamps. At one point I asked about my LL being accepted as a core and they said no problem, no difference.

Well, my limited knowledge/understanding is that the computer showed that there were problems with #4, #6 and #8. This does indeed indicate to me that the harness on the driver's side is the problem. As soon as I open it up, I assume I'll be able to tell whether I need the clip rebuild deal, or the whole harness. My question is, where did the "$16 UVC harness" come from. Certainly not the dealership.........
