Bought a 2003 F-250 Super Duty FX4 (6.0 diesel) several months ago and have started to notice some engine surging or cycling at constant speeds. This happens with and without the cruise control on. MPH and RPM do not fluctuate. In addition, when the truck is stopped and still in gear the engine seems to get very quiet--in other words it loses the normal diesel "clack". There is a little hesitation during acceleration from a dead stop but once the "normal" sound comes back it runs fine except for the cycling. I'm new to the diesel world so any information would be appreciated. Just got back from a trip and averaged 18 mpg. I love the truck!!
You may be talking about the EGR cycling, I remember reading a post awhile back in the 6.0 forum. I can't remember for sure though and mine doesn't have an EGR. They will be able to tell you over there I'm sure.
