I Know not to use ether but it wont start without it. '93 e-350 wont start unless I use ether when it is cold but it will start like a champ after it starts and runs for a min......Any help?
How long does the "Wait to Start light" stay on.............8-15 seconds then controller cycles. Next time check the filter Schrader for air........do a test.
Do pressure and flow test of the fuel pump at the Schrader valve on the filter (FSS- fuel shutoff solenoid disconnected). Remove the tire valve core and hook a hose and pressure guage on it should see 4-6 psi when cranking. Then do a fuel quantity test same place, should see 1/3 pint in 10 seconds of engine cranking, route fuel to a suitable container with a hose.
If there is a problem with the lift pump and you are changing it, ensure the new pump comes with instructions as to correct installation procedure if it is the newer model pump with the almost straight arm.
Any air in the filter or return lines means you are having drainback of fuel from the IP.
after you do the tests that 7 stated, and it still starts hard, try using the block heater for 2 hours before lift off. That will tell you if the glow plugs/system need servicing.
i'm also going throught the same problem ether is the only way i can get my F250 to start if i plug it in it starts like a champ but with out the ether or the plug in your not going no where and the wts lite stays on for 15-20 secs and all the glow plug are good and the time was changed 3 monthes ago could it be the fact the the truck has just over 400.000 on it cold low compression effect it ?
Well I tested the glow plugs, found two bad ones......Replaced and it started right up. It sat for a few mins. and tryed again, wouldn't start, the same two plugs went out again, changed them again and started back up. hopefully they stay working and I'll try again in the morning....Thanks
