I just recently got a 2001 F150 Super Crew with the 5.4L V8. I want exhaust that when I drive by heads will be turning. I'm still a teenager so hearing the exhaust in the cab doesn't bother me. After researching past threads it seems like straight pipes are the way to go? Are their any cat-back kits that will give me the loud muscle sound that I'm looking for?
im only 18 so i know what your looking for when you say that you want "heads to be turning," but the only problem is that your truck has 4 cats... this is quite a problem considering how much sound they hold in... my advice if you want your truck to be loud, loose the cats or gut them... ive ran all sorts of systems on my 02 150 with the 5.4... the best sound ive gotten so far is straight pipes from the manifold... no cats.
that is the best way to go if you want a lot of sound, but its illigal
some other suggestions you might consider is running straight pipes with the cats by just cutting off your muffler with a hacksaw (again illigal, but my second favorite), or running a 40 series flowmaster single in, dual out muffler ( im not particularly a fan of flowmasters, but they give decent sound for the price) and lastly you could go buy a glasspack and try to break it(cheap sounding but gives a decent pitch)
I say if ya want er loud, buy some headers and try what john was saying. Leave the cats out and go straight pipe, maybe even try exiting right behind the cab!
