Well, I am now a pro at taking off the valve cover in the cold wet night. My rocker arm has come loose 4 times within a 24 hr period. I've used locktite and cleaned the studs. Keeps coming loose. What am I doing wrong and/or what can I do to fix this? Now from taking off the valve cover so much my gasket isn't working too well and is beginning to leak oil. Im getting ready to sell the darn thing!
You might try putting a jam nut on there to hold it down. Is the nut actually backing off, or is the rocker coming loose in some other way? It's possible you might have a lifter going bad or maybe a bent pushrod. I would hope not, but it's possible. I would pull that pushrod to check it for straightness, if that passes I would pull the side cover and check the lifter to see if it has collapsed. My 84 had 5 collapsed lifters when I first got it, she rattled like a son of a gun!
anytime a nut comes loose by itself means you absolutely have to buy another nut for it, loctite won't work and there is no room for another nut to use as a locknut i have the same problems every now and then
Yeah I think that Im going to just go and get a new set of chebby250 rockers and maybe if I keep the truck I'll get a new crane cam. This thing jsut isn't reliable at all. Ive been trying to get this thing fixed up to use everyday and just when I think i have everythign rebuilt, somthing esle goes wrong....Need a good reason to keep it.
