Electric choke?

Does the electric choke need set/tuned? Or does it come preset? I still havent hooked up the elctric choke b/c some guys I know said that the electric choke has to be set right or when I hook it up it will ruin it or something.

Any info about this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kyle

You do have to set it. And it takes a couple of cold mornings to do it, but I can't think of anything getting ruined by not setting it correctly.

On the passenger side of the carb is the round black thing that is the choke housing. To adjust it, you just loosen the screws and turn the whole black housing part. It may even say on the side of it "leaner" or "richer".

When the engine is cold and hasn't been run overnight, take the aircleaner off. Loosen the screws on the round black choke housing so it will turn, and then using one hand to turn the housing, take the other hand and hold the throttle on the carb wide open. When you hold the throttle wide open, that frees up the choke plate in the top of the carb, so it will move when you turn the black choke housing.

Turn the housing till the choke plate just shuts. Release the throttle and lock the housing screws down.

Try to start the engine. If it starts, and then quits immediately, then you may need a little more choke. That would mean loosening the housing screws again, and turn it just a little bit in the "richer" direction. That will make the choke plate close with more pressure.

It may take a few mornings of adjustment to get it just right.
