Hi, I have a 93 XLT Sb 5.0 160k miles, the main problem is going up a grade in overdrive it surges and actually slows down. If I shift out of overdrive either by the lever or gas pedal it revs up fine downshifts and takes off with no surge. Any grades will slow the truck down, but I drive it in normal D it's just fine.
I have had the tranny fuild changed two times, I bought the truck in early 94 and have had it ever since.
I've searched the board but I'm not having any luck finding the same problem.
my 94 does the same thing.its a 5.0 with a 4r70w and 3.08 gears. have been told that swapping out a set of 3.55 for the 3.08 would help keep the engine in the powerband better and help lessen the 4-3 downshifts on hills.havnt done it yet,got the gears in the garage, just no time to do it.
I would pull the diagnostic codes, could be a number of things, the tranny would be my last guess. Could be a dirty intake manifold, bad TPS, bad IAC, leaking vacuum line, etc. etc.
I would inject some Seafoam into the intake manifold first, and clean up the intake. search for Seafoam, you should get at least a few hits, that'll give you enuf to start working.
