I have a 1989 F150 2wd 5sp witha Inilne 6 300ci. I have antifreeze comming out my tailpipe and I figured that my headgasket was blown, or I had a crack in the block. I got some silver seal to try and fix it but havnt dont that yet. Do you think it will help? what else might I try before I tear down the engine?
All that is a temporary fix it'll work fine for the short term but only short term i would find out soon as possible if it is the head gasket or block and get it fix ie=new head gasket or new /used block.
You may want to check engine for proper vacuum, if it is not low enough it can pressurize the the top of the engine and force coolant out. Would indicate an intake gasket leak or other large vac leak. I just had this happen, got lucky and found the problem.
thanks guys... I have done alot of head gasket work in the past mainly to my dads Chevrolet's so I know how to replace one and know the signs of one I just thought that their might be someone else out there that knew of a back in the woods trick . Like the mexicans using egg yoke to quick fix a radiator enough to get them to the border
you know I bought this 88 bronco 2. the guy just put in a bunch of money in the upper end, and it blew a headgasket. he was tired of messing with it, and sold it to me for 800.00. If was blowing heavy white smoke driving it home, i left it setting in the driveway for 2 weeks, then was in walmart one day and picked up a bottle of prestone super sealer, and said what the hell im tearing it down anyway what will it hurt to put it in there? well I went on home started it up dumped it in the radiator. The white smoke stopped. this was in 1998 I drive it till 2001 with no trouble sold it to a kid , and now see it almost everyday running down the road. The guy flipped out when I told him how I fixed it and called me a lier. but this is a true fact that it did work, might have been once in 5,000 cars but the luck did happen. so now all my cars have a bottle put in them problems or not.
