Ive got a 97 F150 w/5.4 that will randomly studder and/or stall. It only does it when I am about to stop or already stopped. It does it just as often cold as hot, and sometimes it will idle smooth and perfect and then 10 seconds later it will stall. Sometimes it will studder and catch its self, others not. I would say it does it about once every 10 stops.
First thing that came to mind was the IAC, so I replaced that and it still does it. Everything else seems normal. Doesnt feel like I have lost any power. I checked for bad vacuum lines when I replaced the IAC but I didnt notice anything.
Does your check engine light come on? I have a 1997 F250 Light Duty with a 5.4 which did the same thing, I also had experienced terrible fuel mileage. Dealer replaced an O2 sensor (HEGO sensor, part# FMC F08Z 9F472 AB) and reprogrammed the pcm which solved the problem. Concern code:E29 and Fail code:42. There is a TSB calling for replacement of this sensor. My truck was under warranty at the time.

Reason: update
Ok, when I first had the code pulled a few days ago it said running lean, bank 1. When I went and had it pulled agian today, it came up P0171-Solenoid, bank 1. I am now hearing a small pinhole vacuum leak, but cant seem to find it.
