Are you talking 2wd Autofab kit prerunner? The travel would be awesome but I think you might want a front drive axle every now and again. Just my opinion
Well something I could take out to places like Weiser Dunes or even out in the BLM area and beat on it with out breaking stuff, yet have the ability to do trails.
I think it would be, but you would have to limit your tire size to 35's.
I would stick with the dana 44ttb and 9" combo personally. For the ttb, i would use the dana 50ttb housing, then have it welded up to compensate for say a 6" lift, and the lonnger lenght of the ttb arms, then i would throw the dana 44 centersection in just for the fact of upgradeability over the dana 50. This way you get the bigger ujoint balljoints hubs etc, and the cheaper dana 44 3rd member. If you have the cash i would look into getting a set of alloy shafts made (just givce the shop the specs as you'll have 2 short and 1 long shaft, all they have to do is cut and spline), and stick a ctm joint in the center pivot too as thats the joint that will see the most abuse.
Then for the rear i think 35spl shafts and a detroit, then have the falnge drilled for the 8 bolt pattern and you'll be good to go, and you shouldn't have to worry about breakage, and you should good to go.
These days, a prerunner is any truck that is set up (or looks like it is) for high-speed desert use. Originally a prerunner was a vehicle that was used to prerun race cources.
I think a prerunner could do well on slow speed trails as well. My bronco has 4" of lift in the front, 2.5" in the rear, 16" of wheel travel front and rear ad 33x12.50 tires. I haven't had the opportunity to test it out yet, but I think it'll hold it's own on trails.
Here's a pic of Curt Leduc's prerunner Bronco on a trail: http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/2...ze/leduc09.jpg
That pic is pretty mild, but he's probably got another 6" of bump travel on that left front wheel and possibly as much as another 6" of droop available from the left rear. It's not even close to being maxed out in that pic. I'd bet that thing could kick some butt on serious trails if he was willing to rub it against some rocks like some guys do.
