Under hood insulation

for those that have done this. how much engine noise did it take out???

4) Under Hood Liner
3C3Z-16738-BD Hood Liner and N808842-S for the plastic snaps that hold it on. The under hood liner uses 16 plastic push pins and they come in bags of 4 so you will need four bags.

I added a Dynamat underhood insulator and Dynamat extreme soundproofing sheets to the inside of my '05 F350 6.0 CC. The sound level was instantly lower and the factory radio even sounds better now (less background noise to compete with). I spent about $100 for all the parts and installation was a snap. You just peel and stick the sheets (12" x 12") in place. You can add as many sheets as you want or can fit. I'm thinking about doing the floor and ceiling if I can get all the carpet and headliner out of the way.

where you get the dynamat stuff at? is it easy to install? and does it last long i.e. if water gets on it or normal wear and tear?

I bought the Dynamat stuff out of the Summit Racing catalog. The mats come 4 sheets to a box for $20. You can cut it and bend it anyway you need to, and it has an aluminum face to help reflect heat as an added bonus. It's supposed to be heat resistant to something like 300 degrees. The product is semisolid, so I don't think it will absorb water. Once you stick it in place, it stays stuck, so long as the surface is cleaned properly first. If you look inside your door panels, you'll see that Ford put a little strip of similar material inside the outer door skins. But it only covers a tiny portion of the door. I found that if you line the door panel around the speaker cutouts, it does make the factory speaker sound better and you hear a little more bass (this is what the stuff is intended for orignially). I put about 3 sheets in each door. The doors now sound solid and do not have that hollow ringing sound when you shut them. I think for the $, it's an easy upgrade. You can test the results just by tapping on the door panels before and after. The hoodliner is a heat resistant foam rubber type product with a reflective face. You peel and stick it in place. If you don't like it, you can always peel it off, but the glue is pretty strong. Don't know aobut durability. I've only had it installed for about a month.

Sorry, I was out of town for the day so I couldn't reply sooner. I don't have pics of the install, but if you know how to remove the door panels, then it's easy. Just peel and stick the squares in the door panel. Do as many as you like, because the more you use the quieter it will be. As for the hood, I cleaned it with simple green and then some rubbing alcohol. I then had my buddy help with the positioning of the hood insulation. It comes in a big 3x4 ft sheet. I peeled and pressed it into position, and so far the adhesive has held very well. The difference in noise level is definitely noticeable inside and out. If you decide you don't like it, you can always peel it off and clean up the glue with some solvent. Anyways, I like the results and would recommend it to anyone with a PSD.

Do the part numbers in the 1st post still apply to 05/06 trucks? Have the hoods changed?

The hoodliner, pins, etc. are the same for '05 models. I recently swicthed from the Dynamt hoodliner to the Ford oem hoodliner, and the parts listed above fit just fine. The Dynamat liner was fine, but the Ford parts look and fit much better (look's just like the factory installed it). The noise reduction was a little better w/the Dynamat, but the Ford hoodliner still does a good job at keeping the interior and exterior noise level down noticeably. You can still hear the engine and the turbo whistle, just not as loudly as before. I added the fron hood seals too, and it all helped w/the sound, as well as keeping water and dirt out of the engine bay.

I was thinking of putting some dynamat strips underneath the factory hood blanket. Then I will install the front seal. How hard was that?

My truck looks like it has the rear seal (on the truck not the hood). The front doesn't have much of anything. I read somewhere it required some cutting...Is that true?

Where did you buy the factory stuff? Ford wants $278!!

I bought mine online, but shipping it was the real problem. I would suggest buying the hoodliner locally, and maybe shop around for the seals and stuff. I bought mine from 1stfordparts.com (no affiliation). It was a lot cheaper ($83 for the liner), but they might charge a lot for shipping it (I was lucky, they had one on hand they wanted to get rid of). I did a post on the whole project not too long ago, so search it out. Yes, the front radiator support seal needs to be trimmed to fit, and the hood needs to be drilled to mount the front lip seal, but it is simple to do (took me about an hour for the whole project). It looks really good when done and IMO was worth it. Good luck w/yours.

I added the ford factory hood liner and I could not tell a single ounce of diff in sound level.

These trucks are loud and meant to be heard!

Hey bansheemike, I had pictures posted in the gallery from my original post on the hoodliner & seals. I don't know if they are still there, but I'll try and take smoe new ones this week. Which seal are you looking for? The radiator support or front lip seal?
