Since my stock rear end cover on my 250 is almost rusted out, I've been looking for a replacement before it becomes a problem. Now I know magtech and dpp make covers, but in all honesty, I don't need anything that expensive. On the other hand, I'd prefer not to buy another stamped steel, flimsy replacement. Is there anything in middle of these two extremes? If it adds more capacity, that's fine, but it's not a requirement. A drain and fill plug would be nice, but not really a requirement. I'm just trying to get an idea of what else is out there.
Cuda444 --- I've been looking for a replacement front/rear diff cover for my 2003 SD...and have been going in circles. The cover's you mention are great...no doubt, but I'm with you with the cost.
I was doing a search...and found these. One alum, one chrome, and one clear. Hope the link(s) works...
Biz... Thanks for the links. I may be ordering a chrome one then just scuffing it up and painting it black to match the rest of the undercarriage. Thing is, I just don't know if it is just chromed, stamped steel. <shrug>
Keep me posted if you find something else... I'll do the same
I bought a new one from ford and blasted it slightly painted it with 2 coats of rust bullet then 4 coats of spray aluminum paint then 4 coats of clear car paint. With the RB as a primer it will never rust again ever. even if it gets chipped.
Awhile ago I did one with metal etching primer 4 coats and black enamel 4coats. The POS didn't last one snow season it was all rusted. You could just do 2 coats RB and 4 coats reg black spray and you'll never see rust..
99, that was my other thought. Thanks for the tips. That is probably the route I'm going to go. I have no need, nor desire to spend $250 on a rear end cover -- though they are nice.
