OOOPS. I'm selling my 94 Explorer and was giving it a good bath the other day. I soaked the completely cold engine with cold water and simple greened it. Also before I get anything wet I removed the MAF and cleaned it with carb cleaner. Now when I start the truck the idle does NOT begin high like it always has and it stays low throughout the temp range. I have to actually let it warm up before I can drop it in gear without it stalling. I initially thought I just got something wet and the problem would go away once I got it hot and dried out, but nope it's still there. Could a damaged MAF do this?
Personally I think she's just mad at me for putting a for sale sign in her window. She's been a trusty steed for 123,000 miles but I wanted to put my daughter in something newer with airbags. Someone PLEASE HELP.
You probably filled up the spark plug's with water by accident. Mine did the same thing when I cleaned the engine, it wouldn't idle high and would stall if I didn't keep presure on the gas pedal.
Took it to a shop right away after cleaning, they found water in the spark plugs. The guy said the easiest way to clear it would be run the truck hard for about 20 miles on the highway to burn off the water.
I did just that and it's smooth again. Do you think maybe this is what happend to yours?
Just replaced the MAF and no change then replaced the IAC and the problem went away instantly. I should have known to try the IAC first if it's an idle issue.
if i would have seen this in time i would have told you IAC and stay away from the maf. damaged maf wouldnt give you the symptoms you described. an IAC would.
