I found a 1975 F250 Supercab 2wd Camper Special with a 390, AT, and 70,000 original miles. The truck is absolutely mint and is owned by an elderly gentlemen that bought it new and has kept it in his garage. He also has a 24' fifth-wheel trailer that he bought new when he got the truck. I asked him if he was interested in selling the truck when I noticed he had a brand-new Ford pickup sitting in his driveway. He said he was thinking about selling the truck and trailer together and didn't want to seperate them.
I haven't got around to asking for a price, since I won't have any money until January, and the truck isn't being advertised. What would be a fair price for the truck? What about the truck and trailer. Both are in excellent condition, which has me worried that my budget of $4000 might be exceeded, even though the vehicles are pretty old.
I really wanted a 4x4 supercab, but they are rare, and lowest you can find them around here is about $4500 for a total pile.
Travis, Make sure he has your phone number, and just stop by every now and then, and let him know how much you admire that truck, while you are adding to your budget. Look around to see what 5th wheel trailers are selling for in your area. He probably isn't pushed for money, just wanted a new truck, so you'll have to play him like a big fish.

In the cool still quiet of night you can hear chevies rusting away.
I would say if the truck is that mint, the truck alone is worth that. All depends on the area. Up here in the snow belt, I would give him $4000 in a minute just for the truck if he would take it. In AZ where I was at over the summer, those trucks were everywhere and maybe it is not a good price. I think the trailer would definitly put you over $4000-$4500 though. I agree with the "wait and see" "stop over every week" approach. If you got both for $4000, you got one good deal.
T,
Nobody is arguing the value of "Your Find". Take it for as little as you can. I mean steal it. Once you get the truck, you can sell the trailer and recoup your expenses. Offer way low. Don't worry about hurting anyones feelings, this is money we're talking about here. He doesn't need his old truck anymore nor his trailer. He's got a new truck. He's not advertising it so there is no competition. Get to know this guy. He's the original owner and he must care about the truck deeply. He won't sell it to you unless you care about it. You don't deserve this gold mine unless your going to take care of this cream puff just like the original owner. Let him know that this is the case and go from there.

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping to get the truck for about $2000, which seems to be the going rate for an "average" 2wd supercab. 5th-wheel trailers that old are going for about $2500-$3500. I'll start at $3000 for the package and try to convince him that it's going to a loving home. Showing up in my `68 Mercedes-Benz 220D in immaculate condition should show him how much appreciation I have for older vehicles. Probably won't mention that I plan to eventually swap the body onto a 4x4 F250 frame with 38-inch tires.
Travis,
Showing up in a Benz and making a low offer may not get the appreciation your expecting. I think if you can portray the need for the vehicle your more likely to get empathy from the seller. Have a friend drive you over, that way the owner won't form any opinion of your styles or taste. Ignorance is bliss. I've horn swaggled a few people, a few times and that's what you'll have to do to get a good deal on this package.
Good Luck, Have Fun,
