So I have a 1989 F-150 4x4. It was my first night out on the town with my truck. I paid 90 bucks extra just to get a tag on the beast. So I was going to meet some girls at the mall. I was all happy happy joy joy. And as I was turning on the on ramp to get on the highway. I hear this loud crack, and then truck bumped, and then it jumped up and slammed back down with sparks flying out the back. I have no idea what had happened, I thought my bumper came off or something. So I pull off, wondering what the crap it was. I get the flash light out, and look around the sides and stuff, and everything looked fine from the outside, but I knew something was wrong. So I looked under the truck, and found out my drive line came off. Really pissed off, I look and find the drive line, and pick it up throw it in the back of my truck, lock the front hubs, and go home.
Long story short it broke the rear yoke, and I don't know if this was already done or not, but the extension housing from the tranny to the transfer case is split in half.
Would you guys know where to find a rear yoke? Are they all the same?
I sure hope you bought this truck from a dealer and got a warranty, and not from someone you used to trust...IMO, whoever had the truck before you knew that the driveline was going.
Anyway, you're going to have to look in a wrecking yard if you're on your own, so this is a read good time to look over the rest of the drive line and see if the other universals are shot as well, and if the transfer case is a bout to come out.
If you aren't real good at this, you might sprong for a shop that specializes in drivelines to take a look for you. Once you know if there's other parts you'll need, get the tranny and axel code off the drivers side door before heading off to the yard so that you get the right parts.
No no no. I know what I am doing and what is wrong. The transfer case is just fine. The guy let the truck sit for a while. I should have looked it over a while back, and he probably knew about it, but I only paid 400 for the truck. So yeah. But I get a new Extension housing coming. But new yokes it all I am looking for. Didn't know if there was a secret website for them.
