I had been having a problem with cold cranking, so I plugged it in the other night expecting for it to fire right up, Wrong. I noticed as I was trying to crank it yesterday that the tach was not moving even though it was turning over plenty fast enough so I replaced the CPS. Still will not crank won't even puff white smoke. I put an Edge Evolution on it today and it says it can't access any trouble codes. I'm thinking ECM is shot, I've checked all the fuses and relays and don't know what to check next any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would start with fuse #22 in the engine compartment fuse box. The fuel heater element in the fuel filter housing is on the same fuse and shorts out killing the glow plugs and pcm. Thus no responce from the computer when trying to read error codes. If fuse #22 is blown, try disconnecting the fuel heater element, middle connection on the fuel filter canister on the drivers side (near the bottom). Replace the fuse and see if that works. I just went thru the same thing a month ago. I believe it is a red wire with a green stripe, if memory serves me. I've been running without the heater element burning winter mix at -35F with no troubles.
My tach still does not move and the CPS came from ford, there is fuel in the filter bowl, and I don't believe it could be the batteries since they are only six monthes old. I double checked fuse 22 it was fine. After turning the engine over for a while the oil pressure gauge reads normal oil pressure. My main question is what would cause the evolution from being able to retrieve my codes. I know I have codes or did have last time it was scanned.
Sorry, can't help you with the Edge Evolution questions. I was trying to help with the "no smoke" while cranking problem. The oil pressure gauge does not check the HPO reservoir oil level. It's basically just a switch sensor that turns on when there is 7 psi oil pressure. I would still check the oil level in the HPO visually. I would also check the fuel pressure at the schrader valve.
things to do/check
hpop oil level
plug truck in
charge batteries
no fuel means weak batts/idm/pcm not working
jump the 2 big terminals for about 10 seconds and then start it...your truck with a non functioning gp system will barely start in 65 degree weather fwiw...
if your close to jacksonville give me a pm i can come help you.
I've tried plugging it in and also jumping across two poles on GPR. Being the oil pressure gauge shows a reading when turning engine over a am assuming it has oil in the HPOP. The only thin I haven't checked are the batteries and I will check them today.
What about the cam shaft position sensor. The go bad regularly. A mechanic told me that it senses the revolutions of the cam shaft and when it goes bad the computer does not know whether the engine is turning or not so it won't do nothing but turn over. It on the front of the engine and can be changed in a few minutes.

How do you visually check the oil level in the HPOP?
Is it the black rectangular tank on top of the front of the engine and is the plug a little plug on the top of the driver's side of the tank with an allen head wrench hole in the top of it?
I have the Edge Evolution also and I have to run the diagnosis with the key on and it wont respond the first time, just leave the key on and press exit then enter to run the diagnosis again. It usually works the second time. Maybe it will give you a code to help you out.

yes or you can remove the oil pressure sensor just to the left of it.
