how do you remove the headlight switch from dash in my 57? the wiring seems all messed up and i want to check it as well as wire a signal to the dimmer on my new guages...just too hard to get at all the connections to trace em while its up in there.
Also do the front turnsignal, market lights shut off when you go from parking lights to headlights? mine do and that means there is no marker when headlights are on, and that seems wrong!
You have to reach up on top of the headlight switch, and feel for a little stud with a spring on it. Depress the spring and simultaneously pull the headlight **** out. The **** should now be totally out. You may have to work it around a little, but it should come out pretty effortlessly. As for the front marker lights (parking lights), yes, they go off when you move the switch from parking lights position to headlight position.
pm'ed ya hope you get it tonite, switch did come out but connection marked R on bottom, broke off, so have to solder in the morning i guess, but just asking since i have to have batt disconnected, which terminal will i receive a constant 12v signal when parking or headlamps are on? just need 12v signal to tell digital guages to dim, they aren't variable like stock guages in most vehicles
There is a tool that you can get from Midfifty.com that helps to take the bevel off if it's the same as on my '56. The spring loaded holder is on the ignition switch on mine not on the light switch. The **** comes off with a lock screw.
I have a wiring diagram for my '56 which might be the same for your '57 what kind of wiring information do you need. The back of the switch has poes that are labeled with letters that tell you which wires to plug into them.
give me what you have regarding the wiring into and out of the HL switch, might have to pull it the whole way out to solder R and don't want to screw up hooking up, plus i need that signal for my dig. guage dimmer (see above)
the term. I is the wire that went to the dash lights, that wire should be blue with a red band. But the term. R runs your tail lights. that should be a brown wire. Both should do what you want.
